You maybe aware that the Ebook has become a very popular, convent and modern way to read a book.
The availability of electronic books isn't something new, in fact electronic documents have been around since the dawn of the personal computer, primarily in the form of a basic text document - no fancy formatting, styles or art work, just plain text. What has changed is how the're read.
The explosion of the Internet and early PDA's (Personal Digital Assistants) and smartphones circa 2000> had the ability to read basic text documents and PDF's. At this point in time these devices and features only appealed to business folk or the geeks among us. The Amazon Kindle, iPad/iPhone, tablet etc. were years off.
Since this time, technology has moved on and has allowed us to carry around our entire music collection in one handy, pocket-able device. Additionally, you can now carry around your whole book collection minus the weight.
An Ebook now is available in various 'formats', from the popular *.txt, *.pdf, *.html up to the new formats such as *.epub and *.azw (Kindle). However some formats are 'closed' and what this means is these documents can only be read on a particular piece of hardware or software.

For the purpose of this forum and it's members we are going to look at documents that are freely available and are 'open source' - readable on ALL devices.
The explosion of the Ebook has helped the VI person and professionals who adapt books greatly. This section of the forum is aimed at those people.
