Only Two Left! Empty
PostSubject: Only Two Left!   Only Two Left! EmptyThu Dec 30, 2010 12:34 pm

Sadly the OCR market has been shrunk to only two suppliers now: ABBYY Fine Reader Professional/Corporate and Omni Page Plus.
The former (up to version 7) in my mind has been the best OCR. I cannot stand Omni Page Plus's complex 'workflow' program.
Both of these programs have unfortunately tried to be as clever (or dumb depending on your viewpoint) as Microsoft by introducing their own 'Styles'.
The problem with this is that even if you strip everything out in Word, all those styles are embedded so that you think you are transferring what you want into Duxbury, only to find that all those styles that the OCR programs created are still there. So what does this mean? The only way round it is to 'scan as plain text'. Which means an awful lot of work afterwards!
